Orange Immune Boost Smoothie

IMG_2927.JPG

This Orange Immune Boost Smoothie is a very delicious way to get your daily dose of Vitamin C, along with many other healthy benefits. Carrots, pineapple and oranges work together to give you plenty of vitamin C, A and K, potassium, calcium, fiber, and healthy carbohydrates to fuel your day and boost your immune system. All three fruits and vegetables used are on the negative calorie list. What are negative calorie foods? Put in simple terms: Negative calorie foods have less calories than your body uses to digest and process them. In other words, you are burning more calories during the digestive process than you consumed, but still getting those important nutrients and vitamins. It’s a win, win!!🏆🙌

This smoothie is only four ingredients. Along with the medley of fruit and veggies, I wanted to some body and smoothness, along with some tropical sweetness. So what better to add? …but my favorite dairy-free yogurt alternative: SO Delicious Vanilla, made with organic Coconut milk. I cannot say enough about this great alternative to yogurt. As a lactose-intolerant person, it’s difficult to find substitutes and SO Delicious has created a great line-up of milks, creamers, ice cream varieties, yogurt alternatives, and even recently added cheese alternatives! 🧀 (check it out HERE.)

I love to enjoy this smoothie anytime of day, but especially along with my breakfast of eggs or mid-afternoon, before a workout (or a heavy and sweaty “clean-the-house” session.) Although this smoothie is great anytime of the year, you may want to keep this recipe in your back pocket during the height of cold and flu season as a good preventative measure to give your body what it needs to fight back.

Note: Although the yogurt alternative adds more of a smooth texture, unless you use a fruit juicer for the carrots, it will have a little crunch, (I actually like that added crunch and find it more fulfilling.)

Let’s begin!

This recipe makes a 16 oz serving.

Instructions:

Add all ingredients to a blender or smoothie machine, pulse a few times, then blend on low for 15 seconds, then on high until smooth, about 1 minute.

NOTE: For a smoother texture, juice your carrots first, using a juicer. For a thicker texture, add less pineapple or orange and more yogurt.
